In the center - the Ventspils coat of arms approved in 1925. The ethnographic pattern elements depicted on both sides symbolize Ventspils' role in trade relations between eastern and western lands. Below the coat of arms - the year 2000. At the top of the coin in a semicircle - the inscription WINDAU, at the bottom in a semicircle - the inscription 1 LATS.

Coin reverse (back)
The reverse of the coin is divided into two parts by a sea wave strip. At the top is depicted Ventspils castle, above it in a semicircle - the inscription VENTSPILS, at the bottom - the reflection of a Hanseatic era ship, below it in a semicircle - the inscription HANSEATIC CITY.
