Butte Knit was a division of the Jonathan Logan Corporation, which was the largest women's apparel manufacturer in the world in the 1960s. Butte Knit was established by David Schwartz in 1959 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was the first
company in the US to produce double-knit fabric. The Butte Knit factory was unique in that it was a vertical factory, where the entire process from yarn spinning to finished garment was produced in one place. In the United Kingdom, Butte Knit was produced by Steinburgs & Sons Ltd. of South Wales.
