A deer mask made using papier-mâché technique. The colorful and diverse masks, crafted in the authentic, centuries-old papier-mâché technique, were created by Jevgeņija Kiļupe (born 1938), who, not being a professional artist, began making masks at a considerable age to earn something extra for her pension. Jevgeņija confidently works with form and color, leaving only a few charming hints in the finished work that indicate – each mask is a unique and singular example, an absolute handmade piece, crafted from the heart and soul.
