Decorative porcelain plate with hand-painted "Poppies" by the author, Poland, 1983
The offered porcelain plate is decorated with an individually hand-painted design by the author (overglaze technique), confirmed by the signature “Britt-83” on the front of the item. Such paintings were done in specialized art workshops on already fired white porcelain forms, and each piece is unique – the artist cannot precisely replicate the same design twice. Therefore, each such plate is, in a way, a one-of-a-kind
item. The painting is set with repeated firing, making the decor resistant to wear and allowing the plate to be used practically without fear that the design will fade or wear off over time. Such individually painted decorative plates were often produced in small series or as unique custom works for export and distributed worldwide as interior and collection items.
The plate was made at the Fabryka Porcelany Krzysztof factory in Wałbrzych city (Lower Silesia), which was founded in 1831 as the German porcelain manufactory Carl Krister. After World War II, the factory came under Polish territory and continued to operate as one of the leading porcelain manufacturers in Europe. The factory's production, often exported under the brand “Wawel,” is known for its high material quality, classic embossed forms, and exquisite decorative design.
