The book narrates the events of Latvian history in chronological order from the traces left by the first known humans in prehistory to the present day. It is written in an easily understandable, simple language, while modern scientific insights are presented in the interpretation of historical events and processes. The story of Latvian history is enhanced and creates a partial presence effect through the section "Contemporaries of the Story." The authors of the text fragments included in this section are both medieval chroniclers, notable monarchs and statesmen, as well as ordinary members of society – students, teachers, musicians, officials, and others. In the book's section "Historical Myths and Fabrications," the reader will learn about historical explanations that have survived their time but remain viable in some parts of society, which have no scientific basis, and false facts whose existence is not confirmed by historical sources. Meanwhile, the sections "At that Time in Europe" and "At that Time in the World" will allow a better understanding of the synchronicity of events in Latvian, European, and world history and provide an insight into their mutual interaction.
