🎀One of the most beautiful practical kitchen items - a porcelain board and spice storage container with the classic blue and white design on porcelain, known as the "Strawflower pattern" (German: Strohblumenmuster, English: Strawflower pattern).
⚜️ It is one of the most historical and popular porcelain decorations in Europe, with origins dating back to the XVIII century. ⚜️ The pattern emerged as Europe's attempt to imitate the expensive Chinese porcelain. The original Chinese drawings
depicted peony flowers and bamboo branches, which symbolize prosperity and resilience in Eastern culture.
⚜️ When German craftsmen in Meissen began copying this pattern in the XVIII century, they didn't quite understand the exotic plants. The delicate, stylized bamboo branches and floral vines reminded them more of ordinary meadow flowers and dry hay (straw). Thus, the name Strohblumen (straw flowers) was born.
⚜️ This is one of the rare patterns in porcelain history that has never gone out of fashion. Since 1740, it has been produced continuously.
⚜️ Historically, this pattern was painted with cobalt. Interestingly, before firing in the kiln, this color appears dull gray or even black. Only in the immense heat does a chemical reaction occur, and the color "blooms" into that bright blue tone we see in your picture.
Both items have remained without cracks, chips, or wear on the decoration.
